As we head into the festive period, us wonderful people here at Drury Towers thought it would be an ideal time to look at what is happening in the FC Drury Super League.
And as we gaze over said Super League, Mr. Steev Tovey looks to opening up a bit of a lead at the top, much to the disgust of the Brothers Smith. Tovey has enraged the younger of the two Smiths, who is convinced he is transferring his team each week and, as chairman of the Super League, has somehow wangled unlimited transfers. The older, more ginger brother however, is holding fire on any comments until his trained squirrel returns with the hard evidence of just how Tovey is doing it.
Meanwhile, early season pace setter and general all round old guy Darren Allen has popped back into the title race with his Hotspurs team. Dazza had recently dropped off the pace but seems to be picking up those points just at the right time. It remains to be seen how he’s going to cope without Robbie “goal-machine” Keane though.
Jack Tomlinson’s Stevie G led Red Army is making progress up the league too after some encouraging point scoring in recent weeks. He is holding off the challenges in mid table from everyone’s stranger Mr O Law with his “Crow’s Lost?” side and the unknown Tovey brother, Ofcoursemyhorse.
On to top goal scorer and there isn’t too much of a surprise here as the jammy Tovey tops the table with an almighty haul of 40 goals, closely followed by Dazza’s “White Hot Lane” outfit on 34 whilst Benny’s Big Boys sit 3rd on 32 goals. A somewhat surprising entry in at 5 is Dom’s Destroyers, who despite being in the lower half of the Super League have managed score 30 goals.
Rather predictably, the latecomer to the show, and Mr Casual himself, is the favourite for the wooden spoon. Scoring only 11 goals and grabbing a paltry 221 points, Tim Rayner props up the Super League with “Wait For Me”. That said, it looks like Mr Colchester Matt Hudson (Reyal Doar FC – 303 points) and ITV’s own Martyn “Jim Rosenthal” Ager (The Untouchables – 381 points) might push Timmy hard for that wooden spoon come the business end of the season.
And to wrap up, I think it should be brought to everyone’s attention that recently wed Jon “Chopper” Smith sits BELOW his better half Mel in the current rankings. Mel’s Muppets have a huge 3 point lead over Jono’s Gems. Not exactly the Mount Everest of all problems for the all action midfield man, but the fact is, he is still losing to the wife. |
