FC Drury signed out 2007 with an impressive and vital 5-4 win against fellow title challengers AFC Lexden to leave them in second place going into the winter break, while the Ressies slumped 8-1 to Allstars in Division 5.
The club’s first string, though, had to pull a top performance out of the bag, showing character aligned with ability and a refusal to die, to end up winners in a slobber-knocker of a match at Shrub End.
Lexden flew out of the blocks, shell-shocking the Drury by racing to a 3 goal lead in the first 20 minutes. A fight-back was required, and a fight-back was what the Drury boys gave, as two goals from the irritant Blobby Love shut up his ‘admirers’ in the Lexden side (it’s OK, we can understand why the little shit gets so much stick, cos he is an annoying bastard… but it usually means he’s more likely to score…) an own goal, a screaming first goal of the season from Hunty and a flicked header from Brook, scoring for not the first time this week, brought 5 goals. Lexden scrambled one back, but Drury held on to win 5-4.

The same number of goals, but a lot less excitement on the adjacent pitch, as the Reserves slumped to an uncharacteristic 8-1 lifeless defeat; the silver lining, a first toe-poke of the season for Phil Wheaton to return him to the top of the Reserves all-time scorers list with 7, level with Dave Ersapah.
